If you did not install the extension yourself, its performed browser’s setting changes will probably come as a surprise. It will set its promoted site as your homepage and new tabs, and prevent you from undoing these changes. It will also encourage you to use its promoted search engine so it could redirect you to sponsored websites. These redirects are the main purpose of hijackers. How do browser hijackers install

The extension is available for download from the Chrome web store (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/find-my-recipe-tab/opbhkmhahoonbicfbffehgnimpbjacmp?hl=en) but we highly doubt you installed it yourself.

Browser hijackers use software bundling to install because it allows them to bypass users. It’s an especially popular method among unwanted program developers. What happens is minor infections like browser hijackers, adware and potentially unwanted programs come attached to free software as additional offers, which are permitted to install alongside without requiring explicit permission. They are optional but because they’re hidden, users usually end up not noticing them.

If you want to be able to prevent the installation of those unwanted offers, you need to pay attention to how you install programs. Don’t click “Next” without reading anything, and when given the option, opt for Advanced (Custom) settings. Those settings, unlike Default, will make all extra offers visible and allow you to deselect everything. All you really need to do is uncheck the boxes of those offers.

Some of the offers may seem useful at first but if they are using software bundling to install, they do not belong on your computer. If you always allow these useless programs to install, they’ll end up cluttering your computer.

Will the hijacker harm your computer

Hijackers are pretty harmless infections. They focus on redirecting users to sponsored websites in order to generate traffic and revenue. To make doing that easier, they change browser’s settings so that certain sites are set as homepages and new tabs. These changes are usually performed without explicit permission and are difficult to reverse while the hijacker is still present.

This particular hijacker can attach itself to Google Chrome. Once it’s attached and settings have been changed, you’ll be redirected to Hfindmyrecipe.net every time you open your browser. The site is a very typical browser hijacker page with shortcuts to certain services like Gmail, and links to recipes, as well as the weather. It has a search box, and if you were to use it, you’d be redirected to Saferbrowser Yahoo where sponsored content may be inserted among legitimate results. Be careful not click on those sponsored results because some of them could lead you to websites that are hiding malware or promoting scams.

Lastly, we should mention that hijackers are known to spy on users and collect certain information about them. The information is mainly browsing-related. It wants to know what sites you visit, what you search for, what your IP address is and what kind of content you engage with.
