Remove BlissFresh adware (Mac)

BlissFresh is a generic adware infection that installs on Mac computers. It’s not a dangerous infection that can directly harm a computer. Instead, it will spam you with ads in order to generate revenue. In addition to the ads, the adware will also make unwanted changes to your browser’s settings because it has browser hijacker characteristics. And even if the adware itself isn’t harmful, its ads are a different story. Because you could be exposed to dangerous content, the sooner you remove BlissFresh adware (Mac), the better.

BlissFresh adware

BlissFresh adware is identical to IndexInterface, AspectSkip, NavigateNetwork, ClickManager, and many others. They all come from the same adware family. While not particularly dangerous infections, they’re very annoying. BlissFresh adware will spam you with various ads no matter what site you visit. You will be shown ads, banners, and pop-ups, as well as redirected to questionable websites. And while adware itself does not directly cause harm, its ads are a different story. The adware might expose you to tech-support scams, fake virus alerts, bogus giveaways, as well as sites that conceal malware. Until you delete BlissFresh adware from your Mac, we recommend you avoid interacting with ads.

BlissFresh adware also has browser hijacker characteristics, which means your browser’s settings may be changed. It may attach itself to all popular browsers, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Safari, and change their homepage/new tabs, as well as set a different default search engine. This is done to expose you to advertisement content as you’d be shown sponsored search results. It’s also unlikely that you’ll succeed in undoing the changes while the adware is installed on your computer.

Adware’s data collection practices are also worth mentioning. While it will not collect personal information, the adware will track your browsing. It will track what you search for, what sites you visit, what content you interact with, your IP address, etc. This information would also be shared with third parties for advertising purposes. There’s really no reason to put up with this intrusive data collection, considering that all you’re getting from this program is ads.

How does adware install?

Adware, browser hijackers, and other potentially unwanted programs are usually installed via the software bundling method. This method allows unwanted programs to install without explicit permission from users. The way it works is those infections come attached to free software as extra offers, which are permitted to install automatically. It’s a rather sneaky installation method, which is why programs that use it are generally classified as potential threats by anti-virus programs.

The added offers are preselected to install alongside automatically but it is possible to stop them from installing. The offers are optional but because they’re hidden, many users simply do not notice them and are unable to prevent their installations. If you correctly install free programs, you will be able to stop these installations. What we mean by that is installing programs using Advanced (Custom) settings. The installation window will recommend using Default settings but if you follow this recommendation, the offers will be hidden and allowed to install alongside. But if you opt for Advanced settings, not only will the offers become visible, but you will also have the option to deselect everything. All you need to do is uncheck the boxes of those offers. We always recommend deselecting all offers because they will be of no use to you. Even if an offer seems useful at first sight, do not permit its installations. You’ll only fill your computer with junk programs that can be difficult to get rid of later on. It’s also worth mentioning that it’s much easier to uncheck a couple of boxes during installation than it is to uninstall adware and similar infections.

Developers of adware and similar infections often disguise the threats as useful tools. BlissFresh adware could have been advertised as an extension that would improve your browsing experience. Third-party download websites usually promote these deceptive tools. We recommend you always research programs before installing them. At the very least, you should use a search engine like Google to see whether the program is safe to download.

Adware is also distributed via deceptive advertisements and alerts. If you come across virus/update alerts when browsing high-risk websites, interacting with those ads/alerts could result in an adware infection. These deceptive ads falsely claim that your computer is infected with a virus or that you need to install an update. But instead of a legitimate program, you’d end up with adware.
