Uninstall DigitalInitiator Adware

DigitalInitiator is classified as an adware infection that targets Mac computers. It’s often falsely advertised as a browser extension that can significantly improve the browsing experience. In reality, it will bombard your screen with advertisements. In comparison to malware such as trojans and ransomware, DigitalInitiator adware is a minor infection. However, even if it does not directly harm your Mac, it will expose you to a wide range of questionable content, including scams and malware. Ads in general are annoying to deal with, adware generated ads will be much worse. Remove DigitalInitiator adware if you find it among your installed applications (Mac), the sooner the better.

DigitalInitiator adware

Because DigitalInitiator adware (Mac) has browser hijacker characteristics, it will alter the settings of your browser. It will change your default search engine and set a questionable website as your homepage/new tabs. These changes are made to make it easier to redirect you to sponsored websites. All popular browsers, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Safari, may be affected by the changes. You will be unable to reverse these settings changes until you remove the adware. But, at the very least, the changes draw attention to the infection, allowing you to get rid of it sooner rather than later even without an anti-virus program.

The ads are the most annoying feature of adware. It will bombard you with banners, pop-ups, redirects, and other types of ads. These advertisements may expose you to a variety of questionable content, such as tech-support scams, fake virus alerts, and giveaway scams. You may even be redirected to malicious websites. If you notice that DigitalInitiator is present in your Mac’s Application folder, avoid interacting with all ads until the adware is removed.

While DigitalInitiator adware isn’t particularly dangerous, the sooner you remove it from your Mac, the better. It will track your browsing and collect certain information about your browsing activities until it’s removed. More specifically, the adware will track your searches, websites visited, IP address, and so on. Since you likely installed DigitalInitiator adware unintentionally, this type of data collection is intrusive enough to warrant removal.

Adware installation methods

Because of the freeware bundling method, adware, browser hijackers, potentially unwanted programs, and other infections can be installed on users’ computers without their knowledge. Users’ explicit permission is not required when programs install using this method. The way it works is that less-serious threats are added to freeware as extra offers. These offers are permitted to install automatically alongside the program without the user’s knowledge. The method is highly controversial because it essentially allows programs to bypass users. It is not uncommon for anti-virus vendors to classify programs that use it as potential threats.

Because the extra offers are optional, their installation can be blocked. You should be able to avoid unwanted installations if you pay attention when installing free programs. When installing programs, the most important step is to select the correct settings. The installation window may recommend using Default settings, but if you choose these settings, the extra offers will remain hidden and install automatically alongside. What you need to do is select Advanced (Custom) settings. Advanced will display all additional offers and allow you to deselect all of them. Uncheck all boxes because, even if an offer appears to be useful at first glance, allowing it to install is not a good idea. Software bundling is not a good installation method, and allowing random offers to install will fill your computer with junk that will be difficult to remove later.

It is possible that DigitalInitiator was advertised as a useful tool that would supposedly improve browsing. You should do more research before installing apps in the future if you downloaded/installed DigitalInitiator adware yourself and thought it would be useful. Most of the time, a quick search on Google or another search engine will suffice.

Adware is sometimes concealed in fake virus alerts and updates by developers of adware and similar threats. When visiting high-risk websites (such as those with pornographic or pirated content) without an adblocker, you may frequently run into these fake alerts. Even though those warnings might initially seem alarming, ignore them if they show up on your browser. Do not download any of their offered programs either.
